Why have I started this project?
Since graduating from University in July, I've rediscovered my love of writing. I wanted to create a platform to express my views and opinions as I've become increasingly frustrated with the polarisation within society.
This has really been inspired by debates with an old friend of mine: I was very left, he was very right. We never managed to convert each other to our side but I think we both ended up taking tiny steps towards the centre.
It seems every story becomes a political piece. When watching people debate on issues, there seems to be a lack of a middle ground. If you support one side you are branded hateful and if you support another you are branded as oppressing freedom of speech. These preconceptions mean that people do not want to listen to each other or meet each other in the centre. Which is where I feel most of the answers lie. I want to explore that.
I'm also trying to navigate life and establish myself in the world. So some pieces may slide into the more philosophical and lifestyle categories. Again, these will aim to offer perspectives and create a productive mindset.
What do I want to promote?
I want to promote real conversations where we are willing to forfeit our point if someone makes a better one. I want to provoke thought, I want people to listen to each other. I want people to agree to disagree or be willing to change their minds when new information/ new ways of thinking come to light.
Ultimately, it's about unity, it's about community and compassion for others. It's about difficult conversations and difficult truths because that's what is needed to make a real impact.
